In some circumstances, even after criminal prosecutions have been conducted, a coronial inquest is conducted into a workplace death. It is often in the interests of the companies involved in the incident to be represented by counsel at the inquest to call evidence about the circumstances to assist the Coroner in making appropriate and fair findings. Director, Simon Billing acted Fortescue Metals Group in the Coronial Inquest into the Cyclone George disaster. The State Coroner made no adverse findings against Fortescue. Simon also worked on the team representing Newmont Mining in the Coronial Inquest in 2007 into a fatality in the Jundee underground mine.
